Many children and young people only get out to play when they are at school. Lack of play spaces in the community, poor access, major roads and parents fears, all serve to restrict opportunities for play. So Play Scotland is delighted to support the Playtime Revolution, a training series for teachers and support staff, designed to ensure that all children enjoy the best play experience ever in and around their school grounds.
Children can learn more through good quality play environments than in many classrooms, and many of the teaching aids are absolutely free and completely natural. Research published this week in the British Medical Journal of Sports Medicine showed that children who exercise regularly while growing up are more likely to perform better in academic tests when they are older. This must be the best possible outcome for schools, and children get to enjoy their right to play!
So let’s improve the playability of school grounds, join the playtime revolution, and see our children thrive!
