We are delighted to be hiring a Project Support Intern. We are working with Inclusion Scotland to offer this part-time internship.
Terms of employment
Payment: Real Living Wage rate of £11.90 per hour
Accountable to: Play Scotland
Contract: 420 hours, over 24 weeks – this is around 17.5 hours per week for 6 months. Hours can be worked flexibly to suit the intern, though meetings, events, and support and supervision are generally between 9-5 Mon-Fri.
Location: The post will be based on home working, though if the intern would prefer, they can use the Play Scotland office in Edinburgh. There may be some travel in the central area of Scotland.
Purpose of Internship
The purpose of the internship is to support Play Scotland staff team in a range of tasks such as communications, events, administration and projects, for example:
- Working with our Information and Communications Officer by creating social media content and campaign ideas
- Working with our Learning and Development Officer to develop and plan training opportunities and podcasts
- Working with our Digital Membership and Services Officer to create newsletter and to assist with website development
- Working with our Project Officers to support with administration and communications of our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) and Play Pedagogy Awards projects
- Working with our Head of Projects and our Chief Executive to attend meetings and take notes
During this internship, the intern will be supported to create social media content, blogs, podcasts, events, and videos. By the end of this internship, the intern will have gained skills in communications, events, organisational skills, and teamworking and knowledge about different roles within third sector organisations, children’s rights, and play.
Main duties and tasks
Play Scotland will support an intern to gain experience in many areas and areas that interest them. Therefore, tasks will be discussed and decided upon with their line manager.
Depending on the intern’s skills, experience, and interests, some tasks could include:
- Assisting with social media: writing posts, creating images, finding interesting content to share
- Writing a newsletter: speaking to the team to ask for content, writing the copy, sourcing images
- Planning a podcast episode: researching and inviting the speaker, co-ordinating a time to record, choosing the questions, leading the interview or choosing an interviewer, deciding on edits
- Planning a training event: researching and inviting the speaker, setting up Eventbrite, writing advert, managing bookings, sending out zoom link
- Writing Blogs: selecting a topic, research, writing
- Takes minutes at meetings and distribute to all participants.
- Individual Project: an opportunity to pursue a project in line with own interests (for example a leaflet, research briefing, or video version of a Play Scotland resource)
Person Specification
Essential skills and experience:
- A passion for play
- A passion for children’s rights
- An interest in a career in the charity sector
- Experience using Microsoft Word
- Experience using email (Outlook)
- Experience using Zoom or other video meeting software
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively
- Ability to use own judgement and initiative
- Previous experience running or supporting a project or event
- Have a clear need for the opportunity, and be able to show how it will help you overcome barriers to achieving your career goals. (this is assessed in the sections motivation for applying, skills development, and current employment status.)
- Must define as Deaf or disabled which includes physical, sensory and mental impairments, neurodivergent, learning disabilities, learning difficulties such as dyslexia or long term health conditions. (You do not need to give details in the supporting statement unless you wish to. If you do, this will not be removed from the application before the shortlisting panel sees it.
